Dividend Reinvestment Programs

So you have started to invest in some programs...what are you going to do with those dividends? Maybe your dividends are small, less than $100, or perhaps you are making thousands on your dividend. What are you going to do with all that money? Well, why not reinvest your dividend. Reinvest the money you have earned!! Your earnings will only earn you more money as long as you have a good investment!

In case you are wondering what a Dividend Investment program really is, here is the best definition we could find:

DRIP. An investment plan offered by some corporations enabling shareholders to automatically reinvest cash dividends and capital gains distributions, thereby accumulating more stock without paying brokerage commissions. Many DRIPs also allow the investment of additional cash from the shareholder, known as an optional cash purchase. Unlike with a Direct Stock Purchase Plan, with a DRIP the investor must purchase the first share in the company through a brokerage. After that, the company will take whatever dividends it would normally send as a check and instead it will reinvest them to purchase more shares in the company for you, all without charging a commission. The only drawback is that the investor has no control over when his/her money from the dividends is used to purchase new stock in the company, which means he/she might be buying new shares at sub-optimal times. also called Dividend Reinvestment Program. If you are interested in this type of program, check with your employer, your broker, or the manager of your portfolio for the options that are best for you. Depending on what types of investments you already have, your Dividend Reinvestment Program or Dividend Reinvestment plan may have significant gains for you. You may also already be in this type of program. Also, make sure you keep up with your investments, as companies often change how much dividend they are paying. Sometimes these changes are for your benefit, and sometimes they are not. Make sure you are keeping up with your investments so that you are making the most out of your investment.
